Collaboration is at the center of a culture of abundance. Collaboration is the process that leads to everything. Quiet collaborates with care, through spirit, towards sovereignty. Collaboration creates ripples, not dams. It is sharing what you know. Building relationships. Creating space for people to embody their whole selves. Collaboration requires conversations, deep listening, care and trust. The intimacy is hard to replicate, often transactional, and prone to conflict, but when collaboration works, community flourishes. It’s always worth the work.
IN CONTEXT: Collaboration lies at the center of everything from pre-industrial communal lives, to the foundation of hip hop. But as enclosure movements closed off shared spaces, and the solo act replaced the group, systems of scarcity replaced the human nature of abundance. Now we are dominated by competition, plagued with loneliness, and many of us are yearning for a return to more collaborative ways.
IN PRACTICE: Quiet’s answer to division and loneliness? Developing ways to work together, big and small. Collaborative projects teach through communal creation. Gatherings create space for shared time. Pollinators facilitate relationships, building doors between members. And the organization’s pursuit of learning keeps relationships healthy and responsive.

How does a community of artists shift culture?
To shift a culture dominated by financial, political, and social power inaccessible by many, we need a new medium of exchange that cannot be owned by individuals. A currency that expands by giving. We call it cultural currency. It is a currency that disrupts and transforms by elevating consciousness and building community.
Cultural currency allows us to find abundance where others see scarcity, to grow in the face of financial limitations. This is a creative antidote to the social, political, and humanitarian challenges of our time.
Throughout our learning journey, we found that there are five core cultural currencies that Quiet exchanges within our community and that continue to ripple outward:

Care is making space for folks to heal. Care is giving more than taking. Care is how you direct your energy, thoughts, prayers. Care is how you show up.
