Round 2
38 ARTISTS // 29 PROJECTS

Learnings from Round I informed two key evolutions for Quiet Round 2:
Gatherings - Artists expressed a desire to know each other better. In November 2019, Quiet brought over 50 artists together to connect without pretense or performance.
“I took away from the retreat a sense that we could all be on the same side and work towards the same ends and not feel like there’s a competition, even in front of funders.”
Quiet also hosted experiences for two small groups of artists and activists to learn about America’s history of racial terror in Montgomery, AL, and the impacts of migration on communities seeking safety in Honduras and Mexico.
Creative Services - As a response to feedback from Round I, artists were offered business strategy and legal support as needed. Quiet also hosted two workshops at our first gathering: Marketing and Branding, and Grant Writing.
Listening Reports
When Quiet set out to explore a new approach to supporting artists and their role in society, we held one commitment as our compass rose: We would be a learning community evolving quietly, constantly asking questions of ourselves, and of others’ experiences of us, with the answers informing our culture and our ways of working.
Through our learning journey, we have engaged in a deeper exploration of the artist’s experience, which directly informed Quiet’s community, programming, collaboration, agreements, and storytelling. With the support of an independent research team, we have been able to develop ways of working that can be shared with kindred artists and organizations.
